ABOUT

“Unconditional” is a zine dedicated to power couples from fantasy books (classics, YA, NA, A).What constitutes "fantasy books"?
Any book of speculative fiction that includes magical or supernatural elements and takes place in a world separate to ours.Our goal is to have this zine be a physical one, featuring fanart and fanfiction, with the addition of merch items and possibly stretch goals. We’ll be running an interest check first to determine whether or not we should carry on with this project.Where the proceeds will go will be determined after the IC.Here are some of the universes we'd love to feature:

Hello, I'm Maki! I like to sniff books and throw money at limited editions. My favorite pastime is getting my heart broken by fictional characters. The idea for this project has consumed my body and soul, so zine number 10 here I come.

Mathematician by trade and creative by nature. If I'm not writing, nerding out about cars, or cuddling my dog, you can find me with my nose deep in a book. I'm super excited to be modding my second zine, even more as a part of this fantastic project!

What is a zine?
A zine is a collection of fan-made works revolving around a specific topic/theme. Zines can be either digital or printed in form of a magazine/booklet.What is a theme for this zine?
This zine is about favorite power couples from YA/A fantasy books, and it doesn't have a specific sub-theme.What is the rating of this zine?
Considering that it's theme is about couples, it may feature romantic/heavily romantic scenes, but nothing explicit will be shown, as we want to keep the content SFW.Where will the profits go?
We will make a final decision about this once our Interest Check ends.How many contributors will you be accepting?
Our current plan is to have the following number of contributors:
• 25 artists
• 5 writers
• 5 merch artists
Please note that this is a preliminary number, and depending on the results of the Interest Check and quality of our applications, we may decide to expand the slots.What do contributors get as compensation?
We aim to provide all participants with free full bundles of the zine+merch we'll produce if funds allow. We're yet to decide if the rest of the proceeds will be split evenly between contributors or donated - final decision will be made before applications open.
Digital version of the zine is guaranteed!Is there an age requirement for participating in this zine?
You must be 16+ years old to apply as a contributor for this zine.Which characters will be featured in this zine?
We are not limiting the possibilities of a specific couple being represented in the zine. This will heavily depend on our applicants' interests.Can I apply for multiple positions?
You may apply for multiple positions, but you must fill out separate applications for each position (artist/writer/merch artist).
You may also volunteer to contribute multiple pieces in your applications, but it doesn't guarantee you two spots. This will depend on the mods' decisions at the time.Will non-canon or non-endgame couples be included in the zine?
Yes, non-canon or non-endgame couples may be pitched and possibly included. The representation of couples throughout the zine will largely depend on what selected contributors are willing to create!Can the couples be from TV shows/movies or is it book only?
The couple must be from a book (TV show/movie adaptations are possible as long as the couple exists in the books as well).Do all the couples have to be romantic?
Yes, the intention for this zine is to feature romantic couples only.Can couples be from less popular fandoms?
Yes, it's possible to pitch a couple from a less popular fandom, as long as it fits into our selected fantasy genre.

APPLICATIONS GUIDE

Are you interested in applying as a contributor to this zine? Here's a brief guide on the requirements.♥ ARTISTS ♥
We are looking for artists (digital or traditional) who have the ability to visually depict a [fantasy couple] in the canon setting.To curate your portfolio for the application purpose, we suggest the following:
- Select pieces that best represent your current art style.
- Show examples of couple-based artworks [the examples don't have to specifically feature a couple you would want to draw for this zine], or examples of two non-couple characters interacting.
- Show examples of artworks with fantasy-like compositions or elements.
- Show as many examples of fully rendered pieces with backgrounds (note that when we say "fully rendered", we mean pieces that are complete, in your own style).
- Please keep your portfolio to 5-10 pieces max.We will be making a decision based on your artistic style, anatomy, color use, composition, etc.NOTE: Traditional media artists can participate in this zine, as long as you have the ability to scan and submit a digital version of your piece at a high quality (300dpi and at required size) and print-ready.All page artists will be required to provide ONE fully finished piece. In your application you may specify that you wish to contribute more than one piece, but you will not be guaranteed two slots automatically.♥ MERCH ARTISTS ♥
We are looking for artists who have the ability to create a well-composed merch designTo curate your portfolio for the application purpose, we suggest the following:
- Select pieces that best represent your current art style.
- Show examples of artworks you've made into merch items.
- Show examples of couple-based merch designs.
- Your pieces are not required to have a background.
- Please keep your portfolio to 5-10 pieces max.Merch artists will be expected to create 1-2 designs for merch items.♥ WRITERS ♥
We are looking for writers who have the ability to produce a well rounded short story of a [fantasy couple] in the canon setting.To curate your portfolio for the application purpose, we suggest the following:
- Select pieces that best represent your current writing style.
- Show examples of specific couples that you would want to write for in this zine.
- Please show pieces that are up to 2k words long.
- If all your pieces are multichapters, you can submit a single, well-rounded chapter as an example.
- Please keep your portfolio to 3-5 pieces max.We will be making a decision based on your characterization, couple interactions, ability to write a short story with limited word count that is well-rounded, etc.
